So organically that it becomes almost an xtension of your own arm as you attempt to multitask whilst reading The point of view works so well and allows the characters other than Michael to feel real too something that is not always the case in a first person perspective O Donnell maintains this perspective consistently giving it uite a different feel from her first novel which showed the creation of a real family Here the family struggles to come together But like her first novel despite the youth of the narrator this isn t really a coming of age story Certainly Michael learns much about the world here but it is The Story Of His Entire Family As story of his Great Plains: America's Lingering Wild entire family as as the story of this small community It tackles tough topics and filters them through Michael syes to add a surprising amount of charm and Hard Bread (Phoenix Poets even humour to what is otherwise a deeply sad story It is a strong well written second novel and I will continue to follow this talented author.
